"If I can do it, anyone can"

Where did  you get the idea of transforming your Mac?

When Steve Jobs launched the first iMac with a translucid casing, I was very attracted to it. One day, along with a friend, we were talking about our favorite colors. At that moment I thought it would be great if you could modify the color of your Mac with a button or, even better, let the user change the intensity of these colors. I then saw a web site where someone had transformed his G4 casing in order to make it completely transparent. I thought it would be neat if you could add a colored light inside the G4. From then, I elaborated a plan to transform my friends G4 into a really unique machine. Projet Blue Ice was born.

Was the transformation complicated to do?
The whole operation was very difficult for me since I had no previous experience in "tuning". I have no particular experience with electricity. The elaboration of the plan took me a good week. The take apart and put together of the machine took another day and a half. If I managed to do it, anyone can!

What's the cost of this makeover?
The cost of all the extra parts (material, power supply, etc) was about $250. This obviously doesn't count my time. The overall cost can be lowered if you already own some parts (sand paper, proper screw drivers, etc).

Does your Power Mac G4 still work?
The Blue Ice works like a charm! The transformation took place a few month ago and I'm happy to report that I haven't had a problem since. Knock on wood!

Are you planning on doing any more transformations on your or your friends computers?
Your timing couldn't be better. At this precise moment I'm in the middle of doing a mod that I call "Rev 2". "What is Rev 2?" All I can say now is that it represents the combination of a G4 Tower and a flat panel iMac G4. You can follow the transformation on my web site.
