::030102-APPLE PRO KEYBOARD LIT UP
Well here it is, the fully lit-up apple pro keyboard. Sorry I didn't get a chance to take pictures during the process, my friend was borrowing my digital camera.
::FACTS:
I used "El Sheets" from beingseen.com I have a few comments, it took over 2 months for me to receive the supplies I ordered, was promised I would receive in a few days, and it cost close to $200. It took me three "solid/dedicated" days of ripping the keyboard apart, (worse than striping a G4 box apart with scorpions attached to my ears), tons of small screws, 40, 50, I lost count after a while. The keys on the Apple Pro board are black with white letters, it's not the easiest to read when lit-up. OK for touch typist which i'm not. I think a white keyboard with black letter keys would 1. look better and d. be much nicer when trying to read the actual keys when you type ;-) This project was a real pain in the A$$ if ya know what I mean. It does however have potential with the "right" (color) keyboard I think.
::SUM-UP:
Not really worth it in my opinion but a "learning" project none the less.
So I hope this helps most from either wasting their time wondering and more importantly save some bucks for a more worthwhile project, like hiring an army of monkeys to mod the keyboard instead.
::GUIDE TO TAKE APART AN APPLE PRO KEYBOARD:
Since I was camerless during this keyboard mod and a few people have asked here is an Excellent page on step by step instructions on disassembly of an Apple Pro Keyboard. Check it out here.
::OTHER KEWL BOARDS
Check out nite-surfer.com for what looks like a sweet illuminated keyboard named Eluminx. It sports blue/aqua marine lit keys and recently became commercially available to consumers for $99.95, not too shabby for what looks like a well designed board. Current specs show that is supports the PC/PS2 only but after a quick e-mail they quickly replied back that indeed a Mac/USB compatible board was in the works, looks nice.
Staco Switch sports an illuminated board with green LED backlit keys, the SERIES M75 sounds very impressive but at the regular price of $699 I myself would be hard pressed to pick one up, get it, hard pressed, ohh well :-\ A little snooping and I found out they are in fact on sale right now for the triple hot deal of only $599, i'm still a little hard pressed.
